Today we had a presentation by an emergency room surgeon about car crash patients. Some of the videos he showed us were so sick I almost barfed. A few people fainted.

Anyone else had a presentation like this in school?

They havn't done this in my school, but I went to a week long driving school and they showed it there. I don't really get uneasy at grotesque sites, so it didn't really bother me. It sort of made me not want to crash more, though.

Yeah, I had one where we went to a police station. Then one in the gym with an EMT. That stuff doesn't really phase me. There was one point where the EMT was talking about this how this guy was torn apart, I couldn't help but laugh really hard. I was the only one who laughed, it was awkward.

I remember having to endure some of those during high school. Kind of unsettling, but I think this sort of thing is necessary to teach the lessons it's supposed to.

We did have an assembly about drinking and driving, with all those emotional crap interviews of parents and friends of victims and all that *BLAM*. God it was awful, the assembly I mean, not drinking and driving.

I'm a qualified first aider anyways =)

I think the part that got me most was the poor guys screaming when they were cutting a hole in his side and shoving a garden sized hose into it.

I have hardly any doubts that these lectures don't do much to help. The main problem is people getting drunk, not drunk driving. When you are drunk, you can't make proper decisions, so how on earth are you supposed to decide not to drive? in my opinion These things only help sober people not to drink and drive.

I remember having those back in High School, they didn't really affect me I just watched them like they were movies. People around me didn't like it but I was like, "Meh...Not that bad...Happens every day..." I must be in the early stages of a psychopathic serial murderer.

I had an assembly like this in junior high. It was upsetting! The driver's ed videos were no better.

I actually just watched something in health class today about a girl and friends that were hit by a drunk driver (it was from Dateline). It really made me sad and angry, but from what I've heard about the videos and pictures that people see in driver's school, I've not seen much (I took an online driving class).

These videos make me very paranoid, so I am a very nervous driver.

Lol. Driving is just so natural for me. It's just easy and sort of relaxing, I guess. I'm alert all the time, but not really hard focus, more soft focus. I'm always checking intersections and such for cars running lights. And cops, of course. Because, who actually drives the speed limit (Hobbs)?

I took a week long driving course that was like 7 hours a day with 3 full day driving sessions. After that, driving just seems easy. Oh, and getting on the ramp to get on a highway is sort of fun, if anything in driving is actually fun.

well they are supposed to tell you to not drive while drunk (no *BLAM*) but it also tells you to smack your friend in the face if they are going to drive drunk. Technically you still have some senses left in you while drunk, but it *BLAM*s up your judgment and reaction time by a lot.

I didn't see anything too gross when I was in school. Some lady came and talked about her little boy who was run over by a drunk snowmobiler who bombed down a hill that was being used publicly for sledding (as in kids on plastic, not snowmobiles!). There were no pictures of it, thankfully. She did show us a nice formal picture of him, so we would all know which sweet little face to imagine being crushed by a snowmobile (yeah, naturally he wasn't a gremlin child, he was one of those sweet adorable kinds). I guess his head was split open, but he was still alive -- so she held it together while they waited for the ambulance. He did die though. Most people listening to the story started crying.

That's all I remember. Don't operate vehicles while intoxicated! I'll kick your ass.
Oh yeah, I used to be Johnny 117. In case anyone even remembers me.

Lies! I bet it's those propaganda things that they planned out to scared people or touch them in the emotional side.

I hope you're kidding. I'm not an idiot. This lady was serious, her little guy was killed by a snowmobiler. I really don't think someone made that up.

Of course, if you can show me proof that stuff like that isn't true, I'd like to know because I really care about stuff like that, and if people are *BLAM*ing with me about stuff like that I don't want to be fooled. But don't bore me with conspiracy theories...

I don't have my own car, actually. :( I'll probably have one before the summer.

Anyway, let's not derail the thread. Back to school assemblies.

Well, on the topic of assemblies, my school has like 4 assemblies a week. It drives me crazy. All we do is listen to our hippie tech woman or our boring and dry prinicple talk on and on and on. It's terrible.

I'm not saying that all of them are fake, but you do know some people do this kinda of *BLAM* just to make a point or to get attention. Happens all the time with charity and all that *BLAM*.

Not that its a conspiracy, just sayn' that *BLAM* like that happens.
